60 minutes: $100
75 minutes: $120
90 minutes: $140

Anne (DCLMT #1298) weaves many threads of holistic healing -- massage, Ayurveda, yoga, midwifery - into a unique practice at The Well. "As a massage therapist, I look to provide therapeutic bodywork that promotes people’s health and wellness, and eases their tension and stress. Drawing on my earlier career as a midwife, I specialize in prenatal massage and labor support for women. As a yoga teacher (with a focus on prenatal yoga) and Ayurvedic practitioner, I can offer helpful advice for how to support your health and wellbeing through your yoga practice, as well as lifestyle and nutrition choices."

Training and Education: As a graduate of the Potomac Massage Training Institute (PMTI) in Washington, D.C., Anne received academic and practical training in a wide array of bodywork modalities, with a focus on Swedish circulatory massage and deep tissue techniques. Trained as a midwife in Germany, Anne has delivered more than 500 babies. She is also a certified Yoga Teacher (ERYT 500), having studied a variety of styles with a variety of teachers. She is a 2007 graduate of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda and earned a Ph.D. in German Studies from Georgetown University.

Volunteer Service/Community Building: I support the local massage therapy community and profession by volunteering with the American Massage Therapy Association-DC Chapter. I also care for a colony of community cats and generally help out in my community with animal-related issues (helping with lost cats and dogs, visiting pets during travel times, etc.).

Previous Work Experience: Before becoming a massage therapist, Anne worked for several environmental organizations and consulting companies, primarily in communications and other managerial/administrative positions. "Working to support the health of the planet is just as important to me as helping others to achieve optimal health and well-being."

Annie Lake Mahon, MA, LMT

Generalist Practitioner ~ 45 minutes : $65
60 minutes: $80
75 minutes: $95
90 minutes: $110

Annie (DCLMT #1540) is an author, an ordained lay Buddhist minister and founder of the Circle Yoga Cooperative in Washington, DC. "I came to massage therapy through my yoga and mindfulness practices.  I offer my clients a way to understand their bodies and themselves through hands-on bodywork, which itself is a mindfulness practice. As we gain understanding of our bodies and how we move in the world, we feel a deeper sense of ease and belonging. The Buddhist teacher and Episcopal priest Alan Watts used to say that we don't come into this world, we grow out of it, like an apple grows from a tree. I like to explore how massage and restorative yoga can ground us in the present moment and allow us to feel at home in the world."

Training and Education: Annie is a 2011 graduate of the Potomac Massage Training Institute (PMI) in Washington, DC and did her Yoga Teacher Training with Susan Hurley at Willow Street Yoga Center in 2002. She has a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from the University of Michigan as well as a Masters in Religious Studies from Howard University.

Certifications:

Work Experience: Annie's mission is to offer healing to the world, whether it's teaching yoga and mindfulness, or offering bodywork. She brings her decades-long meditation and mindfulness practice to the massage room, creating a grounded space where clients can relax, refuel and leave refreshed in body and mind.

She has been writing about mindfulness, parenting, stress and yoga since 2004. Her blog, rawmindfulness.com, is a hit with the mindfulness and yoga communities. Her latest book, Things I Did When I Was Hangry, documents Annie's search for sanity in her eating disordered family life and reveals how mindfulness helped her go beyond the search for perfection and learn to love the moment as it is.

Katy practices psychotherapy with a commitment to bringing deep presence, insight, and support to her therapy clients as they find the courage to heal. She is excited for the chance to offer psychotherapy at The Well and believes in the importance of holistic and integrated wellness for body, mind, and spirit. “We all carry wounds, big and small, which affect our inner well-being, our relationships, and our ability to engage with the world. By facing our own pain and suffering with compassion, we have the power to transform it into strength. Often, we cannot do this alone. Therapy is not a quick fix, but rather a journeying together to discover your own capacity for resilience and strength and healing into your deeper, truer self.”

Katy's approach to psychotherapy uses the therapeutic relationship built on deep trust and incorporates mindfulness, internal and cultural narrative awareness, strengths-based insight building, cognitive restructuring, and attachment theory. She works with clients from a spiritual perspective to focus on what gives meaning, purpose, and connection. Katy specializes in working with adults facing grief and loss, dealing with illness, coping with caregiving for an elder or a new child, and those facing depression, anxiety, and other symptoms arising from life transitions and adjustments.
