Learn Infant Massage! A Workshop for Babies and the Adults Who Love Them

Fall Session-Sunday Mornings: Oct. 29, Nov. 5 & Nov. 12 - Sundays 10am-11:15am (3 weeks)

In the 3-part series, parents and caregivers learn infant massage techniques than can help babies with sleep regulation, self-soothing, colic, fussiness, digestion, meeting developmental milestones and more!  Infant massage helps parents, too, by learning to read baby's cues, forming closer bonds, and supporting the psychological and emotional transitions associated with early parenthood.  

This series covers basic massage strokes and treatment protocols, infant anatomy and physiology, common pediatric conditions and developmental challenges, and how massage can help. Parents and caregivers learn how positive and therapeutic touch enhances parenting from babyhood, through toddlerhood, childhood, adolescence and beyond. Three-part series meeting on Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Cost is $125/family ($150 for twin families) for the series. 


Mindful Mamas Support Circle

Late Fall Session: Nov. 9, Nov. 16, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7; Thursdays, 9:30-11:30AM (4 weeks)

Winter Session: Jan. 11-Mar. 5; Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 (8 weeks)

Are you looking to be more present for yourself and your new baby, to find a place of calm right in the midst of the chaos? Psychotherapist Katy Cribbs facilitates a four-week support circle for new moms to help navigate this time of transitions. Together, we hold a safe and non-judgmental space for you to bring your whole self, a space for sharing the joys and struggles of new parenthood. First time and veteran moms are welcome. We will explore practical issues such as feeding and sleeping, as well as topics of emotional adjustment, identity, and relationship dynamics. We will ground our time of sharing with mindfulness, gentle movement, and other self-care practices.

Mindful Mama Support Circles are open to mothers with babies 0-6 months at the beginning of the session. We ask that you commit to attending all sessions if possible; feel free to speak to Katy if you have a circumstance that would make this difficult. Space in the circle is limited to ten mamas in order to build a deep, supportive community. The cost for the four-week session is $149 and for the eight-week session is $295, due at the beginning of the first session.  If you would like to join the us but are unable to afford the full session fee, please contact us to discuss scholarship options, made possible through generous support of the Awesome Foundation DC.

Feeding, changing, and moving around with your baby are all welcome, while fussing, crying, or sleeping is expected for babies -- and maybe sometimes for mamas, too!.  Once their circle has ended mamas often continue to meet for playdates with their little ones and to nurture ongoing friendships.

Stress Resiliency for Chronic Pain

          Fall Session: Oct. 16-Nov. 20; Mondays, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM (6 weeks)

Are you struggling to manage pain? Do you experience anxiety, panic, or a sense of dread?  Are you sleeping poorly or do you have insomnia?  There are healthy alternatives to taking prescriptions or self-medicating.  This practical workshop will teach you skills for calming the mind, reducing the pain, and balancing the nervous system that you can apply immediately to your daily life. Facilitators Lois Clinton, LICSW and Audrey Schoomaker, BSN, E-YRT draw on their decades-long success developing Stress Resiliency Groups for combat veterans at The Walter Reed Hospital and Chronic Pain Clinic. Lois and Audrey will teach you proven mind-body strategies to:

  • Track your own body to prevent pain
  • Better understand your emotional triggers for pain and anxiety
  • Identify new resources to enhance your well-being

Massage Basics for Every Body

Fall Session: Oct. 25-Nov. 29; Wednesday 7:15 pm-9:30 pm (5 sessions)

A five-part series on how to give -- and receive -- a great massage! Each session will cover basic anatomy and physiology; narrated demonstration of massage techniques; practice session to give and receive massage; strategies for self-care; optional reading and self-learning activities. Curriculum includes:

  • Session 1: Introduction and Hand/Wrist/Arm (Oct. 25)
  • Session 2: Enhancements and Foot/Ankle/Leg (Nov. 1)
  • Session 3: Common Complaints and Head/Neck/Face (Nov. 8)
  • Session 4: Stress Management and Back/Neck/Shoulders (Nov. 15)
  • Session 5: Review and "Putting It All Together" for Full Body Massage (Nov. 29 - no drop-ins)

Sign up with a partner or come to learn by yourself. $195 for full series; $60 drop-in rate. Taught by Elizabeth Shrader, Astra Rooney, Emily Tellez, Dan Bradley and The Well's massage team. 


Thai Partner Massage: Self-Care for Couples and Friends

Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, 1:00 pm - 5:00PM

Looking for a unique gift for that special someone? Interested in self-care techniques for stress management and pain relief? Want to learn a new skill to share with a friend? Then this half-day Thai massage workshop is for you! 

In this four-hour workshop, Master Practitioner Astra Rooney will teach you a basic, full-body Thai massage sequence to connect with and nourish your partner. Starting with basic principles of Thai massage and the incredible benefits of touch therapy, she will explore the sequence in a fun, easy-to-understand way. At the end of the workshop, each partner will receive the full-body massage uninterrupted, followed by sweet (but healthy) treats! 

To create an intimate environment for learning and sharing, the workshop is limited to a maximum of 5 couples. Cost is $150 per couple.


Mindfully Parenting the Holidays

Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, 1:00 pm - 3:30PM

Wishing for a more calm, present, meaningful holiday season for yourself and your family? Do you feel a sense of disconnection and loss from yourself and your children in a season that you wish held more connection and meaning? Do you crave tools to ground you through the end of the year?

Join Katy Cribbs, LICSW and other like-minded parents to gain skills, tips and tools for yourself and your children to deepen our capacity to be present during the holiday season. This workshop is relevant to those of all and no faith tradition. We will integrate mindfulness practices into food, family, gifts, and ritual, using interactive practices, sharing and reflection, and take-home practices to do with your children.

In this workshop you will learn practical skills for calming the mind, smoothing out anxiety, and balancing the nervous system -- just in time for the joys and challenges of the season and the new year. Men's Yoga & Meditation

Tuesdays, 7:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Men's Yoga Community (MYC) offers weekly men’s yoga and meditation at The Well. Instructor Brad Lyon and guest teachers lead an all-levels class, appropriate for both novices and experienced practitioners. Yoga mats and blocks are available at the studio. RSVP required as class is limited to 6 people.
